Crafting our personal identities is a lifelong process on which we spend quite a lot of time and attention. So then why is it that people can be so damn casual about paying attention to people’s names? In my four decades of living, I’ve been called more than 11 different names—and I’m sorry to say that not one of them is an ACTUAL variation on my name. (Don’t even get me started on the misspellings, but that’s a whole different slice of cake.)
So Laurie @lauriewrites and I (@bklynstacy) stumbled across this topic on Twitter one day, and once she and I started sharing all the ridiculous ways people have mispronounced, misheard and otherwise butchered our personal handles, dozens of other stories came out on the web, people raising their hand to share their own injustices.
